Fibre, what does this mean? For many the thoughts is the rough stuff that is hard to chew. You are right, but there are other types of fibres that are also essential to help maintain our health.
However, if you react to other chemicals in the plant produce such as amines, salicyltes and glutamates, oxolates, phytates,gluten, starches etc., then increasing your dietary fibre from fruit, vegetables, grains can trigger other problems. Why is fibre so important? It's not only important but vital....When we don't eat enough, our body start clog up and become 'toxic' as it is difficult to nourish the bowel and to remove the waste. The best bit it doesn't take long for the health benefits to become evident in the body. The microbiome changes within 24-48 hours which translates to healthier guts, more relaxed immune system and the beginning of serious detoxification.
Keep in mind, if you are not used to eating fibre, if you eat too much too soon, you are likely to either become quite constipated, or have a major clean out. Start small, an extra serve here an there over the week; legumes or lentils once per week to get the guts used to those fibres being there.
Another word of caution, fibre needs water to keep it soft, so if you are not a water drinker, and only increase fibre then you are more than likely to become clogged up and undermining your good intentions. :( So, drink up, eat and and reap the rewards of a healthier body.
