Wellness, by definition is “The state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal”[i]. Health on the other hand is described by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. [ii] Where do you fit in your journey? To feel energetic, alive, and pain free; reduce medication, symptoms, and be empowered by health choices working towards being happy, content and fulfilled?
In basic terms, our body is an exacting arrangement of chemicals that changes each time we eat, drink, think, feel, move, and medicate ourselves. Each change over time potentially changes body systems possibly leading to disease or wellness depending on our choices. We are not just a body but a multi-faceted being, living in a complex chemical and social world that has changed dramatically over the past 150 years; and we are playing catch up to reclaim true health within a very different environment.
Coming back to the WHO definition ‘complete physical, mental and social well-being’, is an encouraging statement. It encourages Health Practitioners to consider our client’s entire being, not just what they eat, drink or how much exercise. Each consultation must by definition go beyond the measurable health state into how a person feels in themselves and their wider community. Pathology and symptoms only give us a snap shot in time whereas medication, emotions, stress, food and relaxation create our pathology and symptoms. Each second our internal profile can change, similar to how weather changes the beach landscape. To highlight the value of individuality I prefer to take the time to get to know you, what your concerns are, how you see your life, health and state of wellness, without the human side of you, you are just a number and that is not good enough in my books.
What do you think, it is time to be considered as a person first, with real hopes, thoughts, aspirations and concerns? Are you looking for support and guidance, to have the space of change held for and with you? It this is an affirmative, then, please book in and we can walk this part of your journey.
