Pain, that niggling discomfort that comes on from doing too much; that ache from sitting too long, or bending over too much or eating that food that just gets you the wrong way.
Pain is a the body's way of protecting us from doing more harm. From the physiological view, it is when the chemistry or composition around the nerve is different and fires the pain nerve. OUCH!!
There are so many things that can do this. Our lifestyle is one of the most common things these days that upsets the body. The food we eat, the chemicals we eat with our food and drink. The extra weight we carry; the sedentary work most of us do. Considering each emotion has its own chemical signature, each emotion we experience is changing the way our body works. Positive emotions such as contentment, joy, peace, happiness and love not only feel good, but they heal our body; alternatively sadness, depression, anger, hurt etc literally create dangerous chemical reactions that not only upsets our feeling heart, but also our digestive system, immune system and hormones causing us pain and instigating inflammation. What comes first??? Pain and depression or depression then pain???
All food and drink is chemical molecules bundled up together to form the matter as we know it and eat it. Therefore, it is possible to imagine that everything, and i mean everything we eat, drink, breathe, absorb is going to change our body's chemistry for good or bad. Nutrition is the study of how nutrients - building blocks interact in the body to support its growth, and healing. Nutrients can be thought of the bricks, mortar, reinforcing steel, stone chips etc of a brick wall. Each nutrient has its own role in the body to build and to work, without anyone of the nutrients, or even more, then the body will fail, just as you can not make a brick wall without one or more of the 'ingredients'.
Nutrient deficiencies are increasing in Australia, even if we don't want to acknowledge it. Vitamin D, which requires fat, sunlight and a healthy gut, hormonal, liver and kidney function is just one. Keep in mind it is just these organs that are not working well in conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, allergies, intolerances, skin conditions. Vitamin D is only just one vitamin. Consider then other deficiencies - Vitamin C, Calcium, folate, B12 are also increasing in our country.
How is this possible? The more people eat processed, packaged foods that strip away the basic nutrients - vitamins, minerals and alter fats, proteins and carbohydrates we are risking nutrient deficiencies. Many vitamins are both heat and water sensitive, and the food industry procedures can easily destroy them or alter them.
Not eating fruit or vegetables, or not enough just isn't good for your health. The sugar or fructose scare that went around 2 months ago didn't tell the entire story. Yes, fruit do contain fructose and sucrose, but they also contain such very important vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that can not be eaten easily from other foods. Fibre, is also essential to keep the body healthy. The different fibres literally scrub, soak up and stimulate the body's cleaners to do their job. If they didn't your body can easily build up with toxins and chemicals that place's a huge amount of stress on the body and the toxins leach back into the blood from the overflow effect of a constipated bowel.
The bowel also needs fermented foods - old style food preparation to keep the cells of the bowel feed and clean. The good bacteria that fermented foods promote also are powerful in supporting the immune system - the organ which controls inflammation and pain. So it makes sense just from this point to look after your Gastro Intestinal System so that your body isn't stressed and hypersensitive to its environment.
